‘Single Ladies’ Gets Picked Up by BET Centric for Season 4

“Single Ladies” will live to see another season after VH1 abruptly canceled the show last month.
LisaRaye McCoy, Denise Vasi and Charity Shea aren’t out of a job....at least for now! The Los Angeles Times reports that BET Centric has picked up “Single Ladies” for season 4. Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit is creating new episodes for Centric as part of a new deal with the network.
Last week there was chatter that BET might take on the show the same way it saved “The Game.” The network wouldn’t directly comment on the gossip at the time, but this announcement presents a twist on the initial rumors.
“Single Ladies” has come as part of a package deal! According to the LA Times, Flavor Unit will also create other original shows for Centric and the network will air reruns of “The Queen Latifah Show” in prime time.


Congrats to the cast!  Hopefully BET can make the show better....?

A$AP Rocky and Chanel Iman Get Secretly Engaged

Rapper A$AP Rocky and Chanel Iman have been seeing each other for quite some time, and now they have taken their relationship to the next level.

According to PageSix.com, Iman is secretly engaged to Rocky after he asked for her hand in marriage and she happily accepted. The two  are keeping things quiet for a while but Iman was spotted without an engagement ring at Montblanc’s celebration the other night.

Congratulations Chanel Iman and A$AP Rocky, we will see if they make it down the aisle!

Lupita Nyong'o is the New Face of Lancome!

Congratulations are in order! Actress and performer Lupita Nyong'o, known for her role in "12 Years a Slave", has just signed on to be the new face of Lancome.

This year has been huge for Lupita! 12 Years a Slave did very well at the Box Office; Lupita's role in the movie helped her win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Her style and grace immediately became popular with the Hollywood crowd and she has landed several major projects as a result.

Of the Lancome contract Lupita says: I am truly honored to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history that I have always loved. I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman's freedom to be herself."

Her campaign with Lancome will premiere in September 2014.

Nicki Minaj Slapped With Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit

Weave and wig making is probably one of the most lucrative businesses in the world. And with millions of dollars at stake there are sure to be disagreements. Rapper Nicki Minaj knows all too well about disagreements in the hair business because she was recently hit with a multi-million dollar lawsuit by a wig maker in Atlanta.

The Atlanta wig maker named Terrence Davidson is suing Nicki for $30 million claiming intellectual property infringement. Davidson filed a civil complaint in federal court alleging he and Minaj made a deal to form a wig-making business to sell some wigs Minaj made popular through her videos and appearances.


However, Terrence Davidson claims Minaj cut him out of the business altogether. He alleges Nicki Minaj started the wig-making company without his knowledge or consent and began selling wigs he designed. The company went from an idea they both had to becoming a multi-million dollar money machine for Nicki Minaj.





TREND ALERT: Drop Waist Dresses

Drop waist dresses are one of the latest trends to come back on to the scene. This look, originally emerging in the 1920's, is characterized by placing the flare of the dress at the hip instead of the waist, where most dresses/skirts usually flare.

Once upon a time drop waist dresses had a boxy, almost baggy look that was not flattering to any woman's figure. Nowadays designers are updating this style by making the dress more soft, flowy, and romantic:

A drop waist is great for women with short torsos because it helps to elongate the upper half and appear more balanced! But since this style doesn't flare at the waist, be warned that it can be very unforgiving because it doesn't hide any imperfections of the midsection. IE: Your rolls might show!

To avoid this problem, make sure you do the following:

1. Pick a skirt length that works for you

Drop waist dresses come in all lengths and styles, so it's important to pick a length that does make you feel comfortable but doesn't make you look like you're being swallowed up. Here, Jennifer Lopez is wearing a more conservative drop waist dress that hits the knees. Perfect length for her!

2. Make sure the dress is made of a forgiving fabric

Let's be real here. Most of us don't have perfectly smooth bodies! If you wanna rock this trend, make sure you pick a heavier fabric that has a little stretch so it can suck in any imperfections. Ponte fabric (a Rayon, Polyester, Spandex blend) holds its shape, doesn't wrinkle, and washes easily. Porsha Stewart's dress is made of a similar fabric and it hides all lumps & bumps!

3. Make sure the flare is right for your body type

Not all drop waists are made the same! You have to get a dress flatters your curves. Jennifer Lawrence, an actress that is known for her curves, shows us that this style is possible for any woman as long as the cut is right!

The lace trend has been around for a bit but this season it's taking on a whole new life! Designers are expanding the types of lace (see the velvet lace from Zac Posen) that they use and they are using more lace-printed fabrics as well (like Keri Washington's dress).

Lace is a feminine, romantic style that works for all occasions but be careful not to go overboard, you'll end up looking like your grandmother's tablecloth! This look is best achieved when worn as a separate, like this top (above) from Express.

This season fur is exclusively used on the collars and the pockets of coats. It creates a luxurious look that's not too over the top, plus it adds a cool urban flair to your ensemble.

A nice coat can make or break your outfit! The key to this trend is simplicity, make sure that your coat is the standout piece and nothing else competes for attention. Both Kim & Kourtney (above) have simple outfits underneath their coats with clean lines without crazy patterns. Take note!

I'll admit, the pajama-inspired trend has outworn its welcome.

If you fell victim to the pajama look when it first came out, you can make this look hot by wearing the top and bottom separately. Pajama pants, when worn alone, can jazz up any boring outfit (see Phillip Lim's pajama pants). They actually look pretty cute!

Keep in mind: the pajama style is SUPER hit or miss. When rockin this trend, make sure you find something that's not too literal but has a pajama-inspired look like these striped trousers from Forever21 (above).

Remember those Tims you used to wear back in the day? You might wanna pull those out again because lug-sole shoes are hot right now! There are a ton of options when it comes to this trend because it's so practical in cold weather! Plus, you can wear these shoes with pants, leggings, or a dress.

Lil Wayne Releases the 'Spectre' Sneaker with Supra

After MONTHS of promo, Lil Wayne's shoe has finally released! For those of you that are not familiar Wayne has teamed up with Supra, a brand of skateboard sneakers. He has created his own shoe line called the 'Lil Wayne x Supra Spectre Chimera', a shoe that will be available in any of the following colorways: Black/Red, Grey/Pink, and White/Red.

Lil Wayne says his goal is to create a silhouette that is completely unique. No word on the cost yet.

STYLE RECAP: The 5 BEST Dressed at the Billboard Awards

We told you the five people whose outfits were least impressive, but what about the people that made the show stop?

5. Miguel

Despite the drop kick, we thought that Miguel’s look was clean and simple. Miguel wore a white tuxedo jacket with black detailing; very on trend for 2013. The boots, the pointy lapels, and the tie all had a subtle cowboy vibe that made the outfit a little more modern and unique. Miguel did indulge in the recent Harem/Hammer pants trend, but they weren’t too exaggerated so we’ll let it slide.

Sidenote: Does anyone see the height of Miguel’s heels?! Damn!

4. Taylor Swift

The dress that Taylor wore offstage was BANGIN! Taylor has always struggled finding dresses that were age appropriate. She’s finally dressing like the young starlet that she is! The length, the color, and style are just right for her slender figure!

3. Emmy Rossum

Emmy Rossum only graced the stage to present an award, but her dress perfectly accentuated her curves. Emmy was able to keep the focus on her dress by styling it with an updo and a simple pair of earrings. The mesh cutouts were put in all the right places and made her look like a coke bottle! This is the perfect example of showing skin without looking trashy.

2. Celine Dion

Just when we thought that Celine had fallen off the face of the earth, she showed up at the Billboard Awards looking like a million bucks! Celine came in a simple yet flatting gold sheath dress and she had a plunging top that accentuated her slim build.  Ms. Dion wears her age so well…Madonna, take note!

1. Jennifer Lopez

J. Lo’s performance outfit ALMOST made the list for Worst Dressed, but her red carpet dress was our favorite! With a romantic style that reminded us of old Hollywood glamour, the gold color perfectly complemented her skin tone and the mesh blend gave the illusion of the dress blending into her skin. There were a few minor styling details that could be tweaked, but all in all this was a BEAUTIFUL dress. Redemption!
