TREND ALERT: Drop Waist Dresses

Drop waist dresses are one of the latest trends to come back on to the scene. This look, originally emerging in the 1920's, is characterized by placing the flare of the dress at the hip instead of the waist, where most dresses/skirts usually flare.

Once upon a time drop waist dresses had a boxy, almost baggy look that was not flattering to any woman's figure. Nowadays designers are updating this style by making the dress more soft, flowy, and romantic:

A drop waist is great for women with short torsos because it helps to elongate the upper half and appear more balanced! But since this style doesn't flare at the waist, be warned that it can be very unforgiving because it doesn't hide any imperfections of the midsection. IE: Your rolls might show!

To avoid this problem, make sure you do the following:

1. Pick a skirt length that works for you

Drop waist dresses come in all lengths and styles, so it's important to pick a length that does make you feel comfortable but doesn't make you look like you're being swallowed up. Here, Jennifer Lopez is wearing a more conservative drop waist dress that hits the knees. Perfect length for her!

2. Make sure the dress is made of a forgiving fabric

Let's be real here. Most of us don't have perfectly smooth bodies! If you wanna rock this trend, make sure you pick a heavier fabric that has a little stretch so it can suck in any imperfections. Ponte fabric (a Rayon, Polyester, Spandex blend) holds its shape, doesn't wrinkle, and washes easily. Porsha Stewart's dress is made of a similar fabric and it hides all lumps & bumps!

3. Make sure the flare is right for your body type

Not all drop waists are made the same! You have to get a dress flatters your curves. Jennifer Lawrence, an actress that is known for her curves, shows us that this style is possible for any woman as long as the cut is right!

For the budgetnistas out there, you can recreate this trend by rockin a cool grey dress like this one from ASOS. You'll look effortlessly chic. Be sure not to wear the same shade from head to toe, or you'll look washed out.

A NEW TAKE ON LACE

The lace trend has been around for a bit but this season it's taking on a whole new life! Designers are expanding the types of lace (see the velvet lace from Zac Posen) that they use and they are using more lace-printed fabrics as well (like Keri Washington's dress).

Lace is a feminine, romantic style that works for all occasions but be careful not to go overboard, you'll end up looking like your grandmother's tablecloth! This look is best achieved when worn as a separate, like this top (above) from Express.

FURRY COLLARS AND POCKETS

Fur collars

This season fur is exclusively used on the collars and the pockets of coats. It creates a luxurious look that's not too over the top, plus it adds a cool urban flair to your ensemble.

A nice coat can make or break your outfit! The key to this trend is simplicity, make sure that your coat is the standout piece and nothing else competes for attention. Both Kim & Kourtney (above) have simple outfits underneath their coats with clean lines without crazy patterns. Take note!

Head to Toe Pajama Look

I'll admit, the pajama-inspired trend has outworn its welcome.

If you fell victim to the pajama look when it first came out, you can make this look hot by wearing the top and bottom separately. Pajama pants, when worn alone, can jazz up any boring outfit (see Phillip Lim's pajama pants). They actually look pretty cute!

Keep in mind: the pajama style is SUPER hit or miss. When rockin this trend, make sure you find something that's not too literal but has a pajama-inspired look like these striped trousers from Forever21 (above).

Remember those Tims you used to wear back in the day? You might wanna pull those out again because lug-sole shoes are hot right now! There are a ton of options when it comes to this trend because it's so practical in cold weather! Plus, you can wear these shoes with pants, leggings, or a dress.

For an everyday Fall look, pair these Timberland's with some striped trousers like the ones we showed in the pajama section. They create a cool rocker look without sacrificing comfort or style.

STYLE RECAP: The 5 WORST DRESSED at the Billboard Awards

We promised that this week would be full of award show recaps and we’re keeping that promise! These are the 5 celebs that should fire their stylists ASAP.

5. Will.I. Am

Will.I.Am is an abstract musician making abstract beats, so naturally his clothing should look like abstract art right? Wrong! This guy is dressed like Zorro’s intergalactic cousin. We get that Will.I.Am’s look is supposed to match his highly synthesized, robotic sound but why in the HAYLE is the man wearing so many layers? The hat, the glasses, the jacket…it’s just too much!

4.  Justin Bieber

We put Justin at #4 but really he’s dead even with Will.I.Am. Where do we begin? The uneven jacket, the leather Hammer pants. It’s tragic! Justin Bieber wants to be Usher so badly he can’t stand it. Here’s a tip, Justin: if you want people to believe that you’re a MAN and not a boy, stop dressing like a member of the Backstreet Boys. Just sayin!

3. Taylor Swift

On a personal level, I find Taylor Swift annoying for many reasons. But that’s not what this is about! The girl looks like she just came from an afternoon on the boardwalk. Taylor, you’re a very cute girl, but can you try a little harder? Shorts and  t-shirt are nobody’s idea of a performance outfit. And the unicorn…Really? How old are you, 5?! Our suggestion: start dressing like a professional entertainer and not like you’re at a talent show.

Who is this person? If we were more familiar with her she’d get #1, but since this is her first offense we’ll let it slide.

This look is tacky and tasteless. Madonna is a grown woman in her 50’s with credentials to back her up. If it’s our attention she’s trying to get, she already has it! So why the need for the barely-there, Lady of the Night outfit? Our request to Madonna: remind your fans that you’re the grand puba by allowing your presence to speak for itself! Take notes from Celine Dion.

It's been a long time since we've done "Hot or Not" but I had to get some input on this one...

Kanye West is well known for his fashion enthusiasm. But do you think he's taking it too far with his recent mask trend?

I don't understand where he's going with this. In the first picture he looks like a thief, and in the other two he just looks scary.

Allen Iverson Models Reebok Question "New Years Eve" Sneaker

Allen Iverson models his "New Years Eve" sneaker

In case you haven't been paying attention, the Reebok Question line of sneakers has been one of the most popular this year. All of them have sold out with a quickness.

Back by popular demand, Reebok has decided to bring Allen Iverson's sneaker which originally premiered in 2006.

The shoe has patent leather covering the toe and gold detailing to accent the side, tongue, and back of the shoe. It has a simple, clean, and versatile look. Props to Allen for trying to get back on his feet.

The 'New Years Eve' sneaker will be released December 29th at Foot Locker, Finish Line, Jimmy Jazz, and Reebok.com. The shoe retails at $125 for men, $90 for kids/women.

Justin Bieber Shows Off His CHROME Fisker Karma EV

Bubblegum pop star Justin Bieber hit the town in his Chrome-colored 2012 Fisker Karma. The car is a plug-in hybrid with fuchsia LED lights and all black wheels and costs somewhere in the triple digits.

All we have to say is HOOOOOOWEEEEE!!! You won't see many cars like this on the road.

This so cool! Make Up Forever has developed a new product called Fluo Night that you blend with your own makeup for a neon look. The super-fine powder is applied on top of your makeup.

In daylight the product is undetectable so your face will have its usual look. However, in the dark your makeup will light up with neon highlights in all the places you applied the product.

For those of you that like to go out, this could be a fun product to apply before you go to the club.
