According to the Mexican government 9,000 illegal migrants have voluntarily flown to Mexico City in the last 2 months.
These migrants have taken part in a patriation program that flies people from Arizona back to Mexico with the expectation that they will go to their own hometowns rather than try to re-enter the country. The government began the flights on July 11th and recently ended them last Wednesday.
This program was done in hopes to not only end illegal migration to the United States, but to also protect the migrants that were hiding in parts of Arizona where the temperatures recently rose to 120+ degrees.
