3 Makeup Rules to BREAK!

DARK SKIN SHOULDN'T WEAR BRIGHT MAKEUP

Once upon a time people used to think that darker skinned women could only stick to browns, reds, and other earth-toned hues. It's definitely an old school mentality but some people still stick to this rule...if you're one of those people, snap out of it! Brown skin (of all shades) handles bright colors beautifully. This doesn't mean that you should wear bright colors all at once (bright lips, eyes, cheeks, etc) but don't be shy about trying a bold red lip or an electric blue eyeshadow. You will be surprised how it flatters your features.

YOUR MAKEUP NEEDS TO MATCH YOUR OUTFIT

Although it's important to wear colors that complement your outfit, the whole matchy-matchy rule is out the window! For example, you don't have to wear purple eyeshadow just because your dress is purple. Try a burgundy, a navy blue, or even a burnt orange color! There's nothing wrong with wearing makeup that is in the same color palette but you can look just as beautiful by trying something totally different.

THE MORE MAKEUP THE BETTER

Recent studies have shown that women that wear too much makeup are actually deemed less trustworthy. There is something so gorgeous about a person's natural beauty, and although there's nothing wrong with using makeup to enhance your features, it should not morph them. In other words, when you wear makeup you should still look like yourself! If you take off your makeup and no one recognizes you, you are WEARING TOO MUCH MAKEUP!

The biggest and greatest tip that we can give you is to make sure that you invest in good quality makeup. It doesn't have to be from the most expensive line in stores, but trust us when we say that the quality makes it easier for you to experiment different looks WITHOUT damaging your skin. Brown skin tends to be a little more sensitive and its important that you treat it right!
