According to TheGrio, Oprah Winfrey has added her name to the long list of heavy-hitting journalists that will be filling in for Robin Roberts while she is on medical leave from Good Morning America.
The 51-year-old Roberts announced this morning that today would be her last day hosting Good Morning America until she returns from having a bone marrow transplant. Her departure was originally planned for Friday, but she chose to exit a day early to spend time with her 88-year-old ailing mother.
“See you later. See you soon. I’ll get back as soon as I can,” she promised at the close of her emotional send-off from the show.
While on medical leave, several famous journalists will be filling in for her, including ABC News colleagues Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters, and Elizabeth Vargas.
Aside from notable news personalities, Oprah Winfrey, Chris Rock, and Kelly Ripa, as well as the cast of ABC’s Modern Family, will also be subbing for Roberts.
Oprah, dubbed by the media as the “Queen of Talk,” will more than likely bring in the largest number of viewers for Good Morning America on the mornings that she fills in for Roberts.
During her years hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah often mentioned how she first gained national attention while hosting Chicago’s WLS-TV’s half-hour morning talk show AM Chicago. So this new gig will not be unfamiliar to her.
